Brigantine

For nearly 20 years now, my online handle has been Brigantine.  As it happens, there's a city called Brigantine NJ and I'm often asked is that the source of my name?  Not quite.

Brigantines were Tall ships in Transitional technology. It was one of the first ships to use fore and aft rigged sails. In fact one mast was rigged fore/aft while the other was square rigged. I feel like that represents our times. I have worked in IT for much of my life. My work has helped many companies transition from labor intensive paper processes to computer driven applications that run entire enterprises.

Brigantines were often used by pirates, because of their speed and ability to sail to weather better than a fully square rigged ship. Which oddly enough the french word for pirate is Brigand and English ships' jails became known as Brigs.

And since there's a little bit of pirate attitude in me, that suited as well.

-- Much Love.
